The Arc’teryx Beta Jacket Men’s in Mongoose is a versatile waterproof shell for walking, travel and days when the weather changes faster than your plans. The emphasis is on reliable protection with a relatively straightforward construction. Its Regular fit leaves space for layers, making it useful over a light shirt in mild weather or insulation when temperatures fall.
The main fabric is 80D three-layer GORE-TEX ePE, with a nylon face and an ePE and polyurethane membrane. The outer fabric gives the membrane a protective surface, while the membrane blocks wind and rain and allows moisture vapour to pass. This is a weather barrier rather than a warm jacket in itself; your base layer and insulation determine how much warmth you carry.
On the inside, C-KNIT backer technology gives the fabric a softer contact surface. That matters when you wear the shell over lighter clothing and want less of a rigid, clammy sensation. Articulated patterning supports reaching and walking with poles. Arc’teryx lists the model at 375 g, keeping the Beta practical to carry when it spends part of the day in your pack.
The adjustable StormHood helps manage coverage around your head without unnecessarily restricting your view. A WaterTight Vislon front zip with chin protection, adjustable hem and two hand pockets provide the everyday essentials. An internal zipped pocket separates smaller valuables from items you access frequently. Set the hood and hem before conditions worsen so that adjustments are already close to where you need them.
An integrated RECCO reflector can assist equipped rescue services in locating a person. It is a passive rescue aid and should be understood as one part of your equipment, rather than a replacement for route planning or appropriate mountain safety equipment. When trying the jacket, lift both arms and check the sleeve coverage with the midlayer you actually intend to wear.
The FC0 DWR surface treatment helps water bead on the face fabric. If that surface wets out, the membrane can remain waterproof even though comfort and moisture transfer suffer. Follow the care label: Arc’teryx specifies washing at 40°C, medium tumble drying, double rinsing and no fabric softener. Regular cleaning is part of shell care. Browse our Arc’teryx collection for insulation to combine with this outer layer.
Check the hood in a headwind and keep frequently used essentials in pockets that remain accessible beneath backpack straps.
